Today is the first day of spring but mother nature is playing tricks on us and making it seem more like summer. Don't get me wrong I love to hear the birds chirping, see the sun shining and bask in the warm temps but I am just a little irritated with this weather and its affect on my garden!
When are you supposed to plant seeds that require cooler soil temps and outdoor temps?!
We have totally surpassed the ideal planting weather for things like lettuce, spinach, and peas and it is just plain ANNOYING!
We have been blessed with some awesome neighbors and friends, Kevin and Amanda, who are helping us start our garden this year. Kevin is a guru gardener and Amanda does a fabulous job coming up with creative ways to use the produce throughout the year. I have learned so much from them both already and look forward to learning even more this year. Kevin has already started our broccolli, pepper and onion seeds. Last night he gave me the rest of our seeds to start here at home. In addittion to Broccoli, Onions, and Hot peppers, we will be growing: Roma Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Grape Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Jalepeno Peppers, Green Beans, Spinach, Buttercrisp Lettuce, Romaine Lettuce, Basil, Cilantro and Rosemary!
I am pretty excited about the plants we will be growing this year. We are going to till our garden this weekend and hope for the best but I am sad that we missed the ideal planting weather because to be totally honest, I am not ready to sweat while working outside just yet!
